The Navarre Bible: Old Testament: Psalms and the Song of Solomon

Although poetic language is to be found in many Old Testament books, it is the predominant form in these ones. The book of Psalms and the Song of Songs (or Song of Solomon) contain lyric poetry, whereas the other books consist mainly of proverbs or aphorisms in verse form, and wisdom poems in varying lengths. This is primarily why the Psalms and the Song are described as poetical books, and the others as wisdom books.

The Navarre Bible: Old Testament: Wisdom Books

One of the most striking aspects of these books is the use of poetry.
This volume also contains notes, introductions, and Latin. The editors' notes, which are rarely very technical, are designed to elucidate the spiritual and theological message of the Bible.

The Navarre Bible: Old Testament: Major Prophets:

In the language of the Bible, the words 'prophet', 'prophecy' etc., have quite a broad meaning, but all refer, primarily, to the idea of 'speaking in the name of God'. The entire Old Testament could be said to be prophetical, but some books carry the names of specific prophets or teachers, twelve 'minor'prophets and four 'major', a distinction based on the length of the texts. The books of the Major Prophets - Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel - go to make up this volume of the Navarre Bible.

The Navarre Bible: Old Testament: : Minor Prophets:

Books of the Old Testament - Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai and Zechariah.
